Description: |
I admit it, I'm a Rock Hound. I can't resist picking up rocks. So why not paint the things that I like? Painted rocks? No, paintings of rocks. Hence, The Geology Series. "The Geology Series, Core Samples 101" is the first time I have tried combining my innovative Recycled Plastics Technique and my Cut Canvas Technique into one painting. The recycled plastic gives the canvas a wonderful surface texture. This texture is not only interesting to look at but creates a desire to touch the piece. This extreme texture is unattainable with any kind of paint gels. The canvas is cut and shaped. Thus is a fun technique, but cutting up a beautiful canvas can test an artist's courage the first few times. That's why I named these works "Daring Art". I had to dare myself to do it the first time. This 3-D cut canvas process might appear fragile, but it is not. In fact it is amazingly resilient and tough. The multiple layers of gesso and paint make the canvas very stiff. Creating these paintings is not a simple process, but it is enjoyable and I love how it keeps evolving. I love the way these pieces look. They always get noticed and commented on in my studio. |
