What is an Innovative Cut Canvas Painting?

The canvas is painted to about 90% completion. Then the canvas is cut and shaped. A second layer of primed canvas is glue behind the first layer. Finally the last 10% of the painting is completed. Thus is a fun technique, but cutting up a beautiful canvas can test an artist's courage the first few times. That's why I named these works "Daring Art". I had to dare myself to do it the first time. I love the way these pieces look. They always get noticed and commented on in my studio.

This 3-D cut canvas process might appear fragile, but it is not. In fact it is amazingly resilient and tough. The multiple layers of gesso and acrylic paint make the canvas very stiff and resilient.
